Caulfield Caravanning and Camping Show 2008

We went to the Caulfield Caravanning and Camping Show when it was on last month. The plan was to check out all of the touring tents in one place - possibly even to pick up a show special.

OK, apparently the Sandown show has lots of tents, but not so the Caulfield one! There was only one brand - Southern Cross, and while they did have a show special running, it was still way more than our budget would allow. (Oh, and also the OzTents, but they are too small for us, and out of our budget, and I’ve also heard that they are not good in a strong wind.)

So after wandering through all of the camper trailers, and stopping for lunch (and being serenaded by a live country music act promoting their new CD), we headed inside to check out all of the accessories (which we missed out on at the other two shows we have been to).

It was great fun poking around all of the possibilities. Picked up HEAPS of brochures - especially on places to visit, and also on caravan park chains. Got myself a fire extinguisher and fire blanket special, and they threw in some instant ice packs to boot. Also got ourselves a Handiwash - a hand operated washing machine! Well, ok, a bucket with a stick through the lid, with a simple version of an agitator on the end. Supposedly saves bunches of water over the alternatives, and is certainly better than laundromats! And they also threw in a washing line made up of all these interlinking ‘pegs’, which means you hook the clothes directly into the pegs instead of needing to carry a bucket of pegs with you at the same time.

The day ended with a bit of a tragedy - the boys had got balloons at one of the stands, and Brydon’s blew away while getting into the car, so Kael chased after it while holding his own… Yep, you guessed it - he fell over and his balloon popped too. So there were much tears and anguish in the car on the way home for a while.

Anyway, other than the balloon incident at the end, all in all it was a good day.

  1. Boy, you did really well at the camping show… we need to check the next one in Adelaide out. The washing machine sounds like a good idea, plus I like the sound of that washing line.
    Great blog!

    cheers
